What Is Plasmapheresis and When Is It Used? — Arthur Dabikyan (BujInfo)
Plasmapheresis is a therapeutic procedure used as an adjunct therapy alongside the treatment prescribed by the attending physician.
During the procedure, the plasma — the liquid component of the blood — is separated from whole blood. This plasma may contain harmful or unnecessary substances for the body, such as autoimmune antibodies, allergens, toxins, metabolic by-products, lipoproteins, and others.
Dr. Arthur Dabikyan, Transfusiologist at the Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia, spoke on the “Buj Info” program on Shant TV about the effectiveness of plasmapheresis, the features of the equipment used, as well as its indications and rare contraindications.
