21,600 Capsules of “Kelfer” Donated to the Yeolyan Center by the Embassy of India

Healthcare cooperation between Armenia and India continues. For many years, the Embassy of India has been providing the Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center with the medication Kelfer.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India, Nilakshi Saha Sinha, visited the Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia and officially handed over a new batch of the medication Kelfer (deferiprone), used in the treatment of Thalassemia.

This time, the Center received 21,600 capsules of the medication.

The Ambassador was welcomed at the Yeolyan Center by Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Armenia, Lena Nanushyan, the Director of the Center, Hayk Grigoryan, and the Center’s specialists. During the visit, a tour was organized to present the Center’s activities and treatment capacities.

Thalassemia is a hereditary blood disorder. Patients with homozygous thalassemia often require regular blood transfusions, which may lead to iron overload in the body. Excess iron can cause serious complications affecting the heart, liver, and endocrine system.

The medication Kelfer binds excess iron and helps remove it from the body, reducing its toxic effects, protecting vital organs, and improving both the quality and expectancy of life for patients. Continuous treatment with this medication is an essential part of managing thalassemia.

This initiative once again demonstrates the strength and continuity of Armenia–India cooperation in the field of healthcare.
