Psychological Support for Adults

Psychologist։ Naira Simonyan

Since 2006, the “Yeolyan” Hematology and Oncology Center has been supporting adult patients and their families with professional counseling and emotional care from the earliest stages of diagnosis.

Psychological counseling is an essential and integral part of the treatment process at all stages of care. This service is available to patients with malignant hematological diseases, hemophilia, and their relatives. Maintaining a continuous connection between the patient, physician, and psychologist throughout treatment helps ensure a more effective therapeutic process and contributes to improving the patient’s quality of life.

Stages of Psychological Support for Adult Patients and Their Families

Diagnosis

Upon diagnosis, patients and/or their relatives often face significant emotional challenges in accepting the illness, which may include denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance stages. Family members may also experience emotional instability and behavioral changes.

During Treatment

Patients may encounter existential and psychosomatic issues, fears, and treatment-related difficulties — particularly during chemotherapy and cytostatic therapy — such as hair loss, isolation, communication barriers, and long-term treatment-related depression, sometimes progressing to emotional indifference, insomnia, or other complications. At this stage, working with a psychologist becomes especially important.

 Post-Treatment

In the recovery period, the psychologist’s role is crucial in supporting the patient’s reintegration into society.

The psychologist applies tailored approaches depending on the specific illness. For example, in cases of hemophilia, where hereditary factors are significant, the focus is on overcoming age-related crises and challenges particular to the disease. In contrast, for acquired illnesses, the stages of psychological support typically follow the sequence described above.

Additional Counseling Services

The Center also offers psychological counseling for individuals who are not patients of the Center, addressing issues such as:

 Fears and phobias

 Panic attacks

 Self-awareness and personal development challenges

And other related concerns

During every stage of treatment, our psychologists work to enhance patients’ quality of life.

We are committed to safeguarding their mental well-being every day.
