A New Stage in Cancer Control in Armenia

On January 22, 2026, the Armenia Cancer Control Workshop was held in Yerevan, dedicated to the development of oncology care and the effective implementation of universal health coverage in Armenia.

The event brought together leading local and international experts, healthcare representatives, civil society stakeholders, and partner organizations to discuss the current state of cancer care, existing achievements, and priority directions for further development.

International expertise was presented by Catherine Lam, Director of the St. Jude WHO Collaborating Centre for Childhood Cancer, and Vitaly Smelov, Medical Officer at the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe.

Specialists from the “Yeolyan” Hematology and Oncology Center actively participated in the discussions, alongside representatives of the City of Smile Foundation and Henaran Charitable Foundation, creating an effective platform for multilateral collaboration.

The workshop addressed key topics, including access to cancer diagnosis and treatment, the role of multidisciplinary and nursing teams, palliative and psychological care, and the practical implementation of universal health coverage in oncology.
