Pediatric Palliative Care Center

Since September 2021, the first Pediatric Palliative Care Clinic in Armenia has been operating as part of the “Yeolyan” Hematology and Oncology Center.

The clinic is staffed with qualified specialists and is equipped with 5 inpatient beds. Its mission is to provide comprehensiv

e physical, psychological, and social support to children with malignant diseases and their families, aiming to improve quality of life within the limits of available medical possibilities.

The clinic was built and fully funded by the City of Smile Charitable Foundation.

Mobile Pediatric Palliative Care Program

As of January 3, 2025, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia launched a pilot Mobile Pediatric Palliative Care Program, which is implemented by the Pediatric Palliative Care Clinic of the Yeolyan Center.

According to 2015 data, approximately 3,000 children in Armenia require palliative care. This statistic highlights the urgent need for such services and underscores the role of the Pediatric Palliative Care Clinic as a key platform for the development of systemic solutions in the field.

 Program Coverage

The program currently covers Yerevan and nearby regions within a 30 km radius, including:

  • Ararat
  • Armavir
  • Aragatsotn
  • Kotayk provinces

Since its launch, the program has served 40 children, of whom approximately 10% have oncological diseases, while the rest suffer from non-oncological conditions such as:

  • Severe forms of cerebral palsy
  • Neurodegenerative disorders
  • Genetic and chromosomal diseases

About 37% of the children enrolled in the program live in regions adjacent to Yerevan, while the remaining are residents of the capital.
