Since 2021, the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center has been operating within the “Yeolyan” Hematology and Oncology Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia. This unique facility in the region specializes in the precise diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of coagulation disorders.
The Center integrates clinical practice, international collaboration, and research capacity to ensure comprehensive care for patients with bleeding disorders and thrombosis. It remains the only institution in Armenia fully dedicated to the care of both congenital and acquired bleeding and thrombotic disorders. A highly qualified, multidisciplinary team follows international guidelines and evidence-based treatment approaches, providing care in line with global standards.
At the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center, patients with hereditary and acquired bleeding disorders — including coagulopathies, thrombocytopathies, and thrombocytopenias — receive diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing follow-up care. The Center also manages patients with atypical, recurrent, and neonatal thrombosis, offering additional treatment, monitoring, and opportunities for clinical research participation.
Services provided at the Center include:
- Diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for hereditary and acquired bleeding disorders (coagulopathies, thrombocytopenias, thrombocytopathies)
- Physiotherapy for patients with hereditary hemophilia
- Management of thrombotic disorders, including atypical localization, recurrent thromboses, and neonatal thrombosis
- Participation in clinical research trials
- Organization of educational seminars for patients, along with psychological and social support programs
The Center has also established a National Registry of Patients with Hemophilia and Thrombophilia. Treatment for patients diagnosed with hemophilia is based on two primary approaches:
- Prophylactic treatment — regular medication infusions started at an early age to prevent anticipated bleeding episodes
- On-demand treatment — medication administration during bleeding episodes
Medical care for patients with hereditary hemophilia is provided within the framework of the state healthcare program.
Since 2016, the Center has successfully conducted more than five international clinical research studies aimed at introducing modern therapies for hereditary bleeding disorders.
The Center’s specialists have received advanced training at leading international institutions in Vienna, Oxford, the USA, Italy, Russia, and Israel. The Center actively collaborates with international organizations, including the World Federation of Hemophilia (WFH), the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH), EDQM, and others.
The Center also serves as the official office for the Hemophilia Patient Association of Armenia, which advocates for patient rights, organizes educational programs, and provides social support, contributing to raising awareness about hematological diseases in Armenia.
