Lung Cancer: Risks, Early Detection, and Treatment Options
Lung cancer remains one of the most common types of cancer worldwide. In Armenia, it is also among the most frequently diagnosed cancers, ranking second in prevalence.
Dr. Samvel Bardakhchyan, oncologist at the Yolyan Hematology and Oncology Center, was a guest on the “I Am Healthy” program of the Public Radio of Armenia, where he discussed the disease’s characteristics and the current situation in Armenia.
Smoking remains the leading risk factor for lung cancer. According to the presented data, the overwhelming majority of cases are linked to tobacco use. The cumulative effect of smoking over many years significantly increases the likelihood of developing the disease.
It was emphasized that early detection screenings can substantially reduce the burden of the disease, especially among high-risk groups.
