“Diagnosis: The First Step to Care” — Today is World Hemophilia Day
Hemophilia is an inherited bleeding disorder caused by a deficiency or functional impairment of clotting factors. It most commonly affects males due to its X-linked inheritance pattern, while females typically act as carriers of the gene.
The Yeolyan Hematology and Oncology Center is the only institution in Armenia providing comprehensive hemophilia care in full accordance with international standards. Thanks to highly qualified specialists, the Center operates a multidisciplinary care model that includes prevention, treatment, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, dental care, and psychological support.
According to national data, there are 299 registered patients in Armenia. Unlike in previous years, patients now have uninterrupted access to treatment. The Ministry of Health ensures full coverage of care and costly anti-hemophilic medications, which patients require throughout their lifetime. Additional support is provided by the World Federation of Hemophilia through continuous drug supply, professional training, and mentorship programs.
This year’s World Hemophilia Day slogan is “Diagnosis: First step to care.”
Emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis, one of our key goals is the timely identification of new cases and their early inclusion in preventive treatment programs.
Early diagnosis allows both children and adults with hemophilia to lead normal lives alongside their condition. Without restrictions, they can attend school and university, participate in sports, and achieve success in various areas of life.
Every patient deserves individualized, continuous, and comprehensive care.
